Instinctive Learning

Why the inhabitants of the African savannah are good at running, because that is an instinct in their lives.

The most basic survival instincts, such as humans are born to suck, birds that just hatch open their mouths to eat (albeit with their eyes closed), and so on...... Species that are similar to mobile phones with factory settings and do not have survival instincts are estimated to have become extinct early.

So in addition to innate instincts, are there any acquired instincts? The answer is yes. The so-called memory is a kind of acquired instinct.

Efficient memory methods, including comprehension memory, scene memory, ...... What I'm going to mention today is instinctive memory.

The main carrier of memory is the brain, and the brain works in a way similar to the JVM (Java programming language virtual machine with garbage collection mechanism). The brain receives a large amount of information every day, but does not memorize all of it (limited capacity), and selectively remembers the part of it that is of high value to the individual, and the other excess information, like information garbage, is recycled by the brain virtual machine (passive asynchronous execution, which the individual cannot perceive).

So, what information is recorded?

The brain will establish a reference to the information related to work, recent exams, or useful information in daily life, pointing to these information areas, and when the exam comes, or when you encounter difficulties in life, the brain will search for the corresponding information area through these references, and obtain relevant knowledge to solve problems. Information without value, such as π - the average person can only remember 3.14, extra decimal places, similar to information islands, the brain does not create references to it. After sleep (or other brain activity) at night, the corresponding storage area of the long string of decimal places behind π will be erased by the brain.

In this way, if you want to remember something and not forget it, you have to let the brain create a reference to it, which is similar to understanding memory, understanding that the essence of memory is logic, and on the basis of fully understanding the content, through logical reasoning, to remember the conclusion of reasoning. Those things that cannot be reasoned with, such as the periodic table of chemical elements, cannot be remembered for a long time by comprehensible memory.

Some people will ask, why can the 9*9 multiplication formula be remembered for a long time? When we use multiplication formulas, we can blurt out them without logical reasoning or anything, why is this? This is instinctive memory.

For example, eating, dressing, and riding a bicycle are all instinctive learning, as long as you learn it, you will form an instinct and never forget it, this is the benefit of instinctive learning, which will benefit you for life.

So, what is the difference between instinctive learning and memory learning? The biggest difference is that instinctive learning involves some actions (or applications), which are learning and using at the same time, such as putting on clothes, and you are both learning to put on clothes and applying the instinct of putting on clothes. Students' learning in the classroom is to memorize learning categories, such as the Pythagorean theorem, calculus, and relativity, even if you learn and understand it for a while, it is difficult for you to come in handy in life, unless your work is related to it, which is why most people will quickly forget the knowledge points of calculus and linear algebra after graduation, but mathematicians will not.

If you can learn memory and transform it into learning, won't you be able to achieve permanent memory? The answer is yes.

Take English learning as an example, if you live in an English environment, you have been exposed to various life scenarios since childhood, and you need to communicate with the outside world to solve (use English), then your English learning is instinctive learning, so you don't have to worry about forgetting to speak English when you grow up. Learning English in a Chinese environment, because it is memory learning, you can remember the test in the short term, and forget it all in the long term. Especially for those who don't like to communicate with people and don't like social activities (such as me), learning English is pure memory learning, and perseverance may also have some effects, and they forget it as soon as they put it down.

Inviting an English private tutor and participating in the English corner are all artificially created English conversation scenes, giving you the opportunity to use English to solve problems, and transform memory learning into instinctive learning, so that your memory is stronger and your progress is more obvious.
